Global mobility associated to the recent decolonization processes, though very present in the memories of those who lived them, generated multiple belonging spaces.
On one hand there’s the cultural heritage from the ex-colonizer which is reflected in the ex-colonized urban image or architecture; on the other, one construction, which starts from that heritage and which might be considered artificial, but that supports as a referential or diverge factor, for a new beginning.
Questions rise, obviously, from a continuous situation, whose is defined by some schizophrenia, but one wants in transit into a new common reality based in negotiated ideals through interaction and life practice.
If the document affirms or proofs, the belonging or belongings of an individual to one or more geopolitical spaces, on the other hand, in which way those multiple belongings influence the development of that new reality, for the individual’s point of view?
Contrarily to what one would suppose, one “miscegenation” which is demonstrated through language and common habits. One “creolization” that generates a new reality, richer in references which, giving its ongoing transformation is not fully defined. Nevertheless, it’s above any separation expressed by a document or documents.
A reference to postcolonialism was made as a start, but given the Globalization phenomena, the same could be described by a rising number of migrants, independently of their nationality; and the relationships they establish between their original countries and the hosting ones.
The importance of the document, the passport, shows itself as the symbol of free access for two distinguished realities, not exclusively resulting from here any reference to the adaptation and integration process, which all individuals in this situation are subject to. Only through a collective and ritualized practice, they’ll have the opportunity to show new expression ways and collective belonging.
